The Surrounding Area

Dorset is a county for all seasons. It has so much to offer, and with its mild south coast climate, World Heritage coastline, pretty villages & unspoilt countryside we’re sure you’ll enjoy your stay.

There are hundreds of breathtaking walks, plenty of historical sites & buildings and a myriad of other activities at your finger tips. We are less than 3 miles away from the popular seaside resort of Weymouth – with an expanse of golden sand & shallow water it is one of the best beaches along the South Coast. Clean, safe and with traditional seaside entertainment such as donkey rides, swing boats and Punch & Judy.

The harbour is a bustling active fishing port, with various pubs & restaurants giving an alfresco feel.

Across the causeway to Portland, with its historical lighthouse and Olymipic sailing academy, there’s diving, fishing and many other water sports. Even if it’s not your thing to take part, it makes great viewing, from kite surfing to sailing

The village of Abbostbury is also a short drive away with its famous swannery and sub-tropical gardens.

The county town Dorchester (home of Thomas Hardy) is only 8 miles north.

If you fancy exploring our lovely Dorset county, you may enjoy driving the spectacular coast road with its stunning views. Stopping off at picture postcard villages such as West Bay (Broadchurch), Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Durdle Door & Swanage to name just a few. There are many glorious beauty spots & historical places of interest along our Jurassic coastline.

There is a Territorial Army Training Area half a mile away from the farm where intermittent training exercises take place (these are daytime only and we’re sure that they will not affect your stay).

Local Pubs/Restaurants

A 10 minute walk away is the Marquis of Granby. It has outside seating and serves a great homemade menu as well as an excellent Sunday carvery. Also close by, in Chickerell village itself, you will find the very popular Turks Head Pub and The Lugger Inn which both serve meals. In the summer take a walk along the coastal footpath to East Fleet Farm and stop off at the Old Barn – a family bar where you can enjoy a bite to eat and a refreshing drink, with wonderful views.

Public Transport

You can catch the number 8 bus a few minutes walk away outside the Army camp. The bus runs regularly and will take you into Weymouth town centre. You can also catch the X53 Jurassic Coaster bus, which runs regularly stopping at many coastal towns.
